description

A small rear garden with an outhouse and contemporary lounge furniture. The bamboo panel screening and the Phyllostachys (fish-pole bamboo) hedging both serve as background and privacy for the lounge area. The path towards the dining area in the outhouse is cedar decking with travertine paving, which goes with the polystone planters (a glass-reinforced concrete- looking material). During the night-time, there is atmospheric up-lighting under the multistem Juneberry trees (Amelanchier lamarckii) and specimen maples. Other plants perfect for containers are the evergreen Pittosporum tobira ‘Nana’ and purple wallflower (Erysimum ‘Bowles’s Mauve’).

“This garden is all about quiet relaxation: the tall planting around the lounge chairs creates a hidden corner and also serves as a noise filter by masking other sounds with the whisper of leaves of the bamboo.”
